Northpark's Bookmarks Baby Bounce library program is a lot of fun. Went yesterday. There were probably 30 or so moms and grammas and 25 babies. What a great program. Public libraries are the best.

Okay, so here's the romper. It looks okay, right?? Yeah, the close-up shows where I messed up. The bib is supposed to meet the back, I believe. Not sure if it was a cutting mistake or what.
About a month ago, one morning during the baby's naptime, I decided to get out the new Viking sewing machine I received for Christmas. I used to "sew" when I was a kid - by this I mean handsewing doll clothes and furnishings. I think maybe my mom taught me how to use the sewing machine and I would "sew" random pieces of cloth together. Maybe I made a pillow or something? Anyway, I asked for this sewing machine last year. I was thinking I would take a class or something. Yeah so...I was six months into the year and no class. So, I got out the machine, figured it out, and have been making what I thought was an easy romper. Mmm hmm. How hard can it be, right? So of course I screwed it up. But I've decided the baby is going to wear it no matter how weird it ends up looking, because it's my first project. right? hey, she won't ever know. She's six months old. Seriously, though, I think I'm realizing with this mommy to a baby stuff that I need to be regularly creating. something. so I don't just get sucked into "now who was I again before this baby?" But I think I shouldn't read blogs of those of you who actually sew. I'm getting scared reading about rolls of bias interfacing. I'm proud of my romper. I'll let you know how the snaptape goes. A cool blog I found this week that is inspiring me is justsomethingimade.com. Check it out.

Maybe there are lots of us trying to decide our identities - even our actual locations? - as urbanites or rural folk. I have always felt caught between these two identities. Both parts of who I am. The Country Mom loves to be out hiking and is currently learning how to sew. (Coming soon - pictures of the first romper, Simplicity Pattern 2905.) My spouse and I have been dreaming about relocating. I've found lots of other city moms out there wishing they were country moms. Are you one of them? Where do you live and where do you think it would be fun to live? I live in Dallas and think, today, it would be fun to live in Buena Vista, CO and we could go for a cool hike in the mountains. The City Mom will instead settle for a fun afternoon swim at the local Y with friends. And I'm going to get tickets for the opera so we can go to the super cool-looking new opera house opening this Fall. Has anyone been there yet? Also, trying to figure out how to enjoy city stuff such as the science museum without getting sick. At our visit two weeks ago, we all (and two of our babysitters) came down with nasty colds. Do I take a can of Lysol and spray down the mats before setting down the baby to crawl? Would that be...a little hyper-weird?
What is more Urban Mom than Baby Yoga? And going places in the Bjorn? I'm making the best of being an urban mom despite wishing I lived in a more geographically desirable (e.g. California? Colorado? North Carolina?) place.
